Metta Buddhist Centre was set up in 2003 in memory of the late Ven. D. Sangharathana Nayaka Mahathera who was the Chief Incumbent of the Rajamaha Viharaya Weherahena (Buddhist Temple), Matara, Sri Lanka. The Most Venerable Nayaka Mahathera who passed away on 28th December 2002 was a strong advocate of Buddhism.
The Centre aims to continue the work of the late Nayaka Mahathera in promoting the study, propagation and practice of Buddhism for the well-being of the community at large. Structured courses in Buddhist Studies are organised and conducted at no charge. Buddhist religious services are likewise performed without fees for the benefit of the people.
Metta Social Services Foundation, a non-government and non-profit organization was established to promote education and self-reliance among the underprivileged people of Sri Lanka. The Foundation, built on the universal value of loving-kindness (Metta), aims to help the underprivileged, regardless of race or religion.
It manages two children's homes and has a variety of social and educational projects and programmes to assist the needy by providing them with an opportunity to develop to their fullest potential through academic and vocational training. The Foundation is confident that its training programmes, conducted in a compassionate and caring environment, will enable the beneficiaries to excel and do well!
We are very grateful for all the donations and support given to us.
May all beings be well and happy!
