The children at Metta Youth Centre (“MYC”), at Matara look forward to visits by volunteers from Singapore and other overseas countries, who spent a week or two with them. The enrichment programmes conducted by these volunteers give the children an opportunity to interact with people from different background, culture and traditions. They also learn the importance of the English Language as a medium of communication.
For the past few years, volunteers have guided the children in their English lessons based on their school textbooks, taught them art and craft, simple baking skills and sewing.
Local volunteers also help out by coaching the weaker MYC children with their school work including English, Mathematics, Science and History. The children are also taught basic computer skills.
You can be a volunteer and spend some time interacting with the children at the Centres. Please register by completing the application form for volunteer work and mail it to Metta Buddhist Centre, Vihara Mawatha, Weherahena, Matara, Sri Lanka.
