From its inception, one of Metta Buddhist Centre’s primary goals is to give an opportunity to the local community to learn the Teachings of the Buddha. Metta Sunday Dhamma School provides free Dhamma Classes in English and Sinhala to students who are keen to study Buddhism. The building of the Sooriyapokuna Temple at Uswewa, Tangalle will benefit all the villagers who are looking forward to a place where they can learn and practise the Teachings of the Buddha.
Our Chief Incumbent of Metta Buddhist Centre, Ven. W. Ratanasiri Thero also realized the importance of providing safe and secured homes for the underprivileged and equipping them with the necessary skills and tools to enable them to be self-reliant in society. In accordance with this goal, he established up the Metta Social Services Foundation which now manages the Metta Youth Centre, at Matara and at Hambantota.
The Foundation also collaborated with the various government agencies and launched the Metta Vocational Training Programmes. We held courses in Computer Studies, Electronic & Electrical, Landscaping and Courses for Assistant Nurses for the local community. More than 300 trainees have completed these courses and able to find work in their field of training.
Pre-school education is another important area of development for the people. Metta Kids World provides an opportunity for the parents to send their young children to pre-school education to prepare them for entry to primary schools. School fees are kept at a nominal sum to enable the low income group to send their children for a two-year kindergarten education.
Your donation will enable us to set-up kindergarten classes in more villages, structure more vocational training programmes and provide a safe and secured home to the children in Metta Youth Centre, Matara and at Hambantota.
