Metta Sunday Dhamma School

Metta Buddhist Centre established the Metta Sunday Dhamma School in 2005 at its premises to meet the needs of the local community who are keen to study and practise the Teachings of the Buddha.

Dedicated volunteer teachers conduct Dhamma Classes in English at Metta Buddhist Centre on Sundays for students who are interested to attend a structured course in Buddhist Studies. All the students sit for the annual YMBA (Young Men’s Buddhist Association) examinations which are conducted in English. The YMBA programme leads to a Certificate in Buddhist Studies. To-date more than 200 students have obtained their Certificate in Buddhist Studies.

Metta Sunday Dhamma School also operates at Metta Youth Centre where its teachers conduct Dhamma Classes in Sinhala for the residents there and other local villagers living in the vicinity. The students sit for an annual examination from Grade 1 to Grade 10 and thereafter they sit for the Dhammacariya Examination.

The School has also set up Sunday Dhamma Classes at the Sooriyapokuna Rajamaha Viharaya to meet demand for Buddhist Studies at Uswewa, Sooriyapokuna, Tangalle. Separately, plans are underway to start the Metta Sunday Dhamma Classes in the Hambantota District as well.
